Introducing The Swanner House

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, The Swanner House is a two-story craftsman style venue boasting a rare ranch house design preserved in time with luxurious updates inspired by its conception and surrounding nature. Originally built in 1923 in San Juan Capistrano by Roger and Lizzie Swanner Williams, The Swanner House showcases distinctive features of craftsman style including a front porch, wood siding, overhanging roof eaves, and double hung windows. As time went on, the couple landscaped the yard around their house with walnut and fruit trees later transitioning into citrus ranching. The family is credited with starting the citrus industry in San Juan which grew into a major business in the ‘30s and ‘40s. In 1991, the city bought the property with intent to preserve it as one of the very few significant examples of an intact ranch house. Today it is recognized as such and its history is amplified through vibrant special events and weddings taking place on the property with exciting plans for the future.

Step into the property and onto oak floors dating back to 1923. Dark greens, worn leathers, warm woods, and Western details decorate the first floor where a living room, den, getting ready space, restroom, and kitchen is reserved for the groom and his groomsmen. Just upstairs, a bridal suite, getting ready room, and restroom await the bride and her bridesmaids. California poppy wallpaper and antique details decorate the space and a bird’s eye view of the citrus grove can be viewed from the windows. A fresh start to your day begins here and provides you with a private setting to get ready.

Outside, cocktail, ceremony, and reception spaces decorate the land and intermingle with citrus trees, oak, and other plants and shrubs native to California. Yard games including brand new bocce ball courts provide entertainment for you and your guests while unbeatable views paint the distant landscape and ambient lighting sets the scene for an evening under clear, starry skies.
